Overview

Over the last decade or so TV advertising has generally had a bit of a slating from us in the communications industry. It's far more 'on trend' to be posting reportage style videos shot on your iPhone than hire a film crew to produce a high calibre TV commercial. Obviously cost, and trackable ROI plays a huge part this recent zeitgeist but I believe that a beautifully told story is priceless. Whether you make people angry, laugh or even cry, we have been reciting stories to each other since the dawn of time. It entertains, builds relationships and bring us together.

TV advertising still has the ability to entertain and engage us, a good story is a good story whether it's on Snapchat or Sky One.

I've spent many an hour in front of the box and there are hundreds of great, well written, beautifully shot TV ads out there, below are five of my favourites. I'll be upload a few more over the coming months, so keep watching!

The Top Five

1. TANGO - Blackcurrent : In this post-Brexit age, I'm not sure this ad stands the test of time... or is it even more poignant, you can judge.

2. THE GUARDIAN - Three Little Pigs : With 'Fake News' and 'Alternative Facts' everywhere this ad has never been more relevant.

3. KIA - Sportage : I'm this guy, still trying hard, in this predecessor to 'Carpool Karaoke' featuring Grandmaster Melle Mel & Scorpio from the Furious Five.

4. SCHWEPPES - Schweppervescence : Filmed in ultra slow motion capturing at 10,000 fps, combined with the soundtrack "To Build A Home" by The Cinematic Orchestra, the result is just stunning... Gin anyone?

5 VB - The Regulars: And finally, it doesn't get much more Australian than this, a celebration of masculinity... True Blue Ocker, on ya boys!
